Over three years ago, a number of national bodies came together recognising that Health, social care, public health and local government are going to have to work together as never before. Together they formed the Systems Leadership Steering Group, helping these sectors to meet public expectation and demand by shifting the way we all think about how we behave, what we do and how we work together.

For the past three years, a national Systems Leadership programme has supported people in places around the country as they grapple with these new ways of working.

On Thursday 3rd December, representatives from all of the members of the Systems Leadership Steering Group, Local Vision places, participants on ‘Skills for Systems Leadership courses’ and others joined together in Central London to both reflect on the work that has been achieved by the group, before moving on to look forward to how leadership may have to evolve over the next three years given the changing context places and organisations are working in.

Here you will find thinking from the day, feedback from places on how the group is working as well as their reaction to what they heard. If you would like any more information please get in touch with the Leadership Centre at info[@]localleadership.gov.uk.

Who’s in the room?

We began the day asking everyone present to visualise what thinking they were bringing to the discussion, what they hoped to get out of the day and where they wanted to go after sharing learning with those from other places.

Take a look at some of the pictures to see if your own concerns and objectives around Systems Leadership are shared by those who joined us.

What are they thinking?

During the day, participants were encouraged to share their own thoughts and feelings of the impact of Systems Leadership in their places, as well as highlighting some of the ways in which approaches from other places could be applied to their own ‘wicked’ issues. You can read some of the comments on Systems Leadership and the day itself here.

If you have any questions about the steering group’s work or joined us on 3rd and want to share your thoughts get in touch with us at info@localleadership.gov.uk.

@Graphicrecorder joined us on the day to record some of the major themes and insights from the speakers and participants. The image below illustrates what was achieved at Revolution Road, as well as some of the things that have practically worked.
